The Art Bar, a unique pop-up shop, is officially opening its doors for the month of February at 236 E. Calder Way in downtown State College. This exciting new venture is the brainchild of Maure Irwin-Furmanek, a local art educator and artist with over 27 years of experience in the State College Area School District. Maure has always dreamed of creating a cozy, creative space where people from all walks of life—whether high school students, college students, or adults—can explore their artistic side without the pressure of prior art skills. The Art Bar provides just that, offering a variety of art-making experiences for all ages and skill levels.

Maure shared her passion for this new venture, stating, “My goal is to provide a creative and cozy environment for art-making that welcomes high school students, college students, and adults—all without the need for prior art skills. I believe there is a strong need for more experiences in downtown State College, alongside the fantastic restaurants and bars in the area.”

A Creative Experience for Everyone

The Art Bar offers a wide range of activities, from Acrylic Painting to Fused Glass, Book Binding, Sumi-e Painting, and Diamond Painting. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or someone simply looking to try something new, there’s something for everyone. Guests can choose from a menu of options to enjoy during their visit, with the opportunity for both walk-in customers and private events.

In addition to offering interactive art experiences, The Art Bar also serves as a gallery space for local artists to display and sell their work. Featured will be pieces created by students from the State College Area High School’s AP Studio Art class, as well as works from other talented local artists and vendors.

Why Downtown State College?

Maure chose the location for The Art Bar based on its vibrant atmosphere and proximity to both students and residents who crave creative outlets. Downtown State College is the perfect location for The Art Bar “ensuring our vibrant college community has effortless access to all the creativity and inspiration it has to offer!” she says.
